Authentication Settings:

The Authentication Settings window displays when Authentication Settings is selected from the Authentication menu in the navigation panel. This window is used for entering or modifying general settings for the ProxyBlocker that will enable this server to authenticate and re-authenticate users on the network. If using an NT domain, this window also is used for creating an account that will give this server full access rights within the domain on which it resides (see Join Domain).

Settings frame
When authentication in enabled—via the Enable/Disable Authentication window—the fields in this frame are activated.

The ProxyBlocker NetBIOS Name displays. This is the Host Name entered in the LAN Settings window.

1. If using a WINS server for name resolution, in the IP Address of WINS Server field, enter the IP address of each Windows DNS server to be filtered by this ProxyBlocker, with a space between each IP address.

2. In the Virtual IP Address to Use for Authentication field, 1.2.3.5 displays by default. Enter the IP address that from now on will be used for communicating authentication information between the ProxyBlocker and the PDC. This must be an IP address that is not being used, and is on the same segment of the network as the ProxyBlocker.

WARNING: If the IP address entered here is not in the same subnet as this ProxyBlocker, the net use connection will fail.

3. In the NIC Device to Use for Authentication pull-down menu, LAN2 would usually be selected for sending traffic on the network—in particular, for transferring authentication data.

4. Click Apply to apply your settings.

Entries should be made in the NT Authentication Server Details frame only if the domain is an NT domain.
