Phishing
Phishing attacks steal personal data and financial account credentials for criminal purposes. These attacks leverage a wide range of social engineering techniques, including spoofed emails and fraudulent websites, that trick individuals into revealing credit card numbers, account usernames, passwords and social security numbers. Sometimes phishing attacks are designed to steal credentials directly, via crimeware placed on PCs. Financial data remains the favorite target, with a spike in phishing attacks following the announcements of various bank failures at the end of 2008.
Organizations have battled phishing for years. If users are not protected, enterprises may be liable for failure to prevent fraud. Phishing attacks also jeopardize login information, and thus, confidential information.
M86 Security's Secure Web Gateway uses patented, active, real-time content inspection, to analyze each and every piece of incoming and outgoing Web traffic in HTTP/HTTPS/FTP — regardless of its originating URL and without requiring signature matching. Malicious Web content (crimeware, spyware, trojans and other malware) on phishing Web sites is detected and blocked, keeping it out of the network. Additionally, access to, and downloads from known phishing Web sites are blocked, using integrated URL blacklist functionality.
