The Storm botnet has been relatively low profile of late, particularly with the upsurge of other major spamming botnets such as Srizbi. The volume of spam originating from Storm has dwindled to under 1% these days as you can see from our latest spam statistics.
However, every now and then the Storm pops up and reminds us its still here. The latest is a spam campaign that uses a supposed earthquake in China to entice users to view a video.
If you follow the link you are taken to a web page which appears to contain a video to watch:
Attempting to view the video will prompt the user to download a file called beijing.exe, which is none other than the Storm Trojan. Its classical Storm - simple social engineering using current affairs as hooks.
