Marshal8e6 Continues Commitment to Education Market with Launch of Authenticator for Apple Single Sign-on Capability
February 4, 2009
Authenticator for Apple Allows Users of Apple Open Directory Greater Controls and Security Measures for Organizations Running Mac Platforms
Austin, Texas, at TCEA 2009 – February 4, 2009 – Marshal8e6, the leader in Web and email security for the K-12 market, today announced Authenticator for Apple - a new software application that works in conjunction with the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filter. Authenticator for Apple allows Apple workstations and laptop users connected to the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filter easy one-step authentication previously only available to Microsoft Windows users. This new functionality provides greater controls and security measures for organizations running Mac platforms.
"Our customers requested that the functionality of Authenticator for Windows be offered to users of the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filter on the Mac platform," said Patrick Murray, director of product management at Marshal8e6. "Administrators for those on Mac, Windows and mixed networks are now able to easily authenticate users of both platforms in order to allow for maximum user protection and to meet the rigorous compliance standards required by federal law in the education setting. This release is one of many in the coming months that will further allow our customers to most effectively manage an expected increase in blended threats regardless of their preferred platform."
"Marshal8e6 clearly understands the unique needs of the education market and continues to lead the pack with security innovations geared toward us," said Jim Culbert, information security analyst, Duval County Public Schools. "With Authenticator for Apple, we look forward to seamlessly authenticating our Mac and Windows users. Not only does this make it easier for us to protect our students from unsafe materials online, it also ensures that our network is better protected against malware and other security threats."
Authenticator for Apple, a supplement to the flagship 8e6 R3000 Internet Filtering and Reporting Standard and Professional Editions, takes the functionality of the existing Authenticator for Windows and extends that to users of Apple workstations running Mac OS 10.5 or later. This is done by matching the user's authentication to Microsoft Active Directory, Apple Open Directory and Novell eDirectory.
Marshal8e6's cost-effective and scalable email and Web filtering solutions offer districts and schools of all sizes the ability to protect students from unsafe content and networks from potential malware and other emerging threats, while allowing for policy enforcement. Major school systems around the country depend on Marshal8e6's products to protect their networks and ensure a safe online learning environment.
