Marshal8e6 Announces New Temporary Filtering Category for March Madness Content
March 4, 2009
Global Web and Email Security Provider Offers New Filtering Capability for Businesses Aiming to Cut Risks Associated with Live Streaming and Some Sports Web Sites.
Orange, California – March 4, 2009 – Marshal8e6, a global provider of Web and email security products, today announced a temporary category feature for its R3000 appliance specifically for March Madness content. The new capability allows companies to easily filter and monitor content associated with the tournament, which takes place largely during the U.S. workday.
Traditionally, network administrators would block entire segments of content during the event, such as all streaming media or all sports content. Using Marshal8e6's temporary category for the R3000, however, they can easily target only March Madness content and determine when and if employees can view it during the work day.
Why block? There is a large potential for malicious code to be spread through March Madness-related websites and e-mail blasts. Employees who are following the tournament may be more likely to click on a link in a basketball themed e-mail which may in fact be coming from a botnet, rather than a sports website. By utilizing Marshal8e6's filtering technology, however, network administrators can stay one step ahead of potential March Madness-themed threats by blocking related content, and preventing network bandwidth issues.
"While March Madness is an exciting time for sports fans, it can be a huge drain on Internet bandwidth and productivity for employers," said Mark Parker, senior product manager at Marshal8e6. "In addition to the bandwidth issues, there are real security threats associated with large events such as March Madness. In past years we have seen huge spikes in traffic as well as malicious web sites and e-mails geared toward this huge sporting event."
Marshal8e6's R3000 Internet filter is an appliance-based technology that allows organizations to improve productivity and protect their IT infrastructure against malicious Web content by blocking unauthorized Web sites, instant messaging programs, and peer-to-peer applications. It also equips companies with the tools they need to enforce Internet Acceptable Use Policies and comply with filter-enforcing laws such as CIPA, HIPAA, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
The temporary category for March Madness will be available in Marshal8e6's R3000 Internet Filter to customers beginning March 10 to April 10 for no additional charge. For more information, please visit www.marshal8e6.com.
